P90X2 Review Series – Will It Work For MMA?

Posted on 01 December 2011 by Travis Luta

“I don’t have access to a MMA training gym in my local town, and I was wondering if I bought the P90X2 workout system do you think it would help me train in MMA?
-Troy P.

Answer:  Although I think the P90X workout system and the P90x2 are one of the best fitness and workout training systems out there I don’t think it would take the place of authentic MMA Training.  If you could do the P90x2 workout series in addition to a program like The PIT WORKOUT along with some technical expertise from Greg Jackson in his book The Ground Game, I think you would be moving in a very good direction in training for MMA since you don’t have access to a local MMA training Gym.

So, if you take this advise you will be in great shape and on your way to learning some great fundamental ground game techniques from Greg Jackson’s book and well on your way in your MMA training.  However, when and if you have a chance to get into a MMA school nothing is better then getting on the mat, ring, or octagon and rubbing elbows with other MMA fighters.

8 Simple Tips To Use A Suspension Trainer For MMA Training

Posted on 26 November 2011 by Travis Luta

Suspension trainers like the TRX Suspension Trainer Professional Pack and the Jungle Gym XT review are starting to be incorporated into MMA training. Since MMA training is at the cutting edge of the strength and conditioning world it is important to utilize the latest equipment and gear in order to push the limits of the mixed martial artist and the latest way to do that is through suspension training. With that being said we wanted to cover 8 simple tips to use a suspension trainer for MMA training.

Suspension Trainers For MMA Training

1. Make sure you have a clear goal on the MMA skills you are wanting to improve. This will help you choose the type of training and exercises you will need to do with your suspension trainer. With suspension training you will see gains in strength, conditioning, and flexibility all while reducing the risk of injury that can happen with normal weightlifting.

2. Schedule your suspension training alongside your MMA workouts and training. Suspension training is perfect to do before your actuall MMA training since your muscles are loose and flexible.

3. Continually change the repetitions you are doing. Whether you are doing slow controlled reps or explosive reps make sure you change up the number you are doing in order to shock your muscles into growth.

4. Change up your routines and workouts about every 3 weeks or 21 days. It can be as simple as first doing your MMA training then your suspension training.

5. With suspension training it is easy to coast, but don’t do it! You can easily change the intensity and difficulty of the excercises with a simple change in the angles but keep the heat up, don’t cheat.

6. After a good training session and workout make sure you treat yourself to a reward.

7. Make sure you get a full stretch at the bottom or top (depending on the exercise) of each rep this will create more power in the ring or octagon.

8. Stick to 10-15 minutes for your suspension training prior to your MMA training. If you are doing it post MMA training then you can push it up to 45 minutes, but no longer then that.

Many Approaches of Workout Exercise

Posted on 03 November 2009 by Travis Luta

Starting from the premise that one needs comprehensive guidance and step by step directions to come up with a workout exercise program could be detrimental to one’s achievement of fitness. Yes, maybe there is something very good about personalized training but the option is not the only one you’ve got. There are plenty of tips available online that can help one improve any workout exercise he/she chooses.

For instance, if we take walking as a workout exercise, its impact on the health condition can be improved by following some such online suggestions. Thus, the stride has to be kept shot with the abs pulled in and preferably tight. In order to save energy or recover it, try to alternate brisk and slow walking intervals. Plus, if you bend the elbows, the arms will swing more rapidly thus influencing the speed of the legs in a positive way too.

With a monthly change in the fitness routine you can further increase the efficiency of any workout exercise, preventing the formation of the workout plateau that keeps the body at the same level of evolution. In addition, when you alternate strength and core training with cardiovascular exercises and stretching the results will be a lot more rewarding with full body benefits.

As for the intensity of a workout exercise, it can be evaluated by a heart beat test, a talk test or a rating of the perceived exertion. Each of these methods are available in a professional gym or with minimum knowledge on the procedures. Never ignore the importance of stretching since each workout exercise will be a lot more efficient when the muscles are warmed up and loose for performance.

The use of workout machines such as elliptical trainers may affect the quality of the workout exercise, which will result in a lower caloric consume for instance. Such situations are explained by a deficient use of the machine and a too heavy leaning against the handrails which reduces the amount of effort and thus the body stimulation.

To conclude with a final word of advice, let us insist on the importance of adjusting diet to the workout exercise routine. You should eat quality food, full of nutrients that are burned as energy and don’t get stored in the form of fat deposits. Read some professional informative materials too, so as to understand which foods are good and which are bad for a physical training routine or for a weight loss program.
