8 Simple Tips To Use A Suspension Trainer For MMA Training

Posted on 26 November 2011 by Travis Luta

Suspension trainers like the TRX Suspension Trainer Professional Pack and the Jungle Gym XT review are starting to be incorporated into MMA training. Since MMA training is at the cutting edge of the strength and conditioning world it is important to utilize the latest equipment and gear in order to push the limits of the mixed martial artist and the latest way to do that is through suspension training. With that being said we wanted to cover 8 simple tips to use a suspension trainer for MMA training.

Suspension Trainers For MMA Training

1. Make sure you have a clear goal on the MMA skills you are wanting to improve. This will help you choose the type of training and exercises you will need to do with your suspension trainer. With suspension training you will see gains in strength, conditioning, and flexibility all while reducing the risk of injury that can happen with normal weightlifting.

2. Schedule your suspension training alongside your MMA workouts and training. Suspension training is perfect to do before your actuall MMA training since your muscles are loose and flexible.

3. Continually change the repetitions you are doing. Whether you are doing slow controlled reps or explosive reps make sure you change up the number you are doing in order to shock your muscles into growth.

4. Change up your routines and workouts about every 3 weeks or 21 days. It can be as simple as first doing your MMA training then your suspension training.

5. With suspension training it is easy to coast, but don’t do it! You can easily change the intensity and difficulty of the excercises with a simple change in the angles but keep the heat up, don’t cheat.

6. After a good training session and workout make sure you treat yourself to a reward.

7. Make sure you get a full stretch at the bottom or top (depending on the exercise) of each rep this will create more power in the ring or octagon.

8. Stick to 10-15 minutes for your suspension training prior to your MMA training. If you are doing it post MMA training then you can push it up to 45 minutes, but no longer then that.

Equipment Checklist For Beginner Martial Artists

Posted on 18 October 2010 by Travis Luta

A common question that I hear from people who are just starting at my Columbia martial arts school is “What equipment do I need?” Women especially want to know what they should wear to train in and what other supplies they will need to be successful. There are a few crucial items a women will need to train in Muay thai and Brazilian jiu jitsu, two of the most popular styles right now.

Muay Thai, a form of kickboxing often trained by MMA fighters, requires less supplies and can be easily purchased. Any comfortable workout clothing is good for Muay Thai or other kickboxing styles.. It can be something as simple as a pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt or something like a whole uniform of under armor design. Ease of movement is the most important factor to consider..

Just wearing shorts with nothing underneath is not a good idea for self-conscious women.. Because there are lots of kicking motions in Muay Thai, women like to wear spandex shorts under their regular shorts.. The only other things needed to train in muay thai are hand wraps and boxing gloves. These can be easily purchased often from your martial arts school, a sporting store, or online. The wraps come in pink, green, black, and all sorts of other colors which adds a little variety and personalization to a woman’s martial arts wardrobe.. To train in this martial art, you generally will only need one set of hand wraps and gloves. Buying a second pair of handwraps is recommended; they are cheap and they need to be washed after each workout..

The supplies needed for Brazilian jiu jitsu are just as easy. The main thing that you need is a gi, which includes the top, the pants, and the belt. Sizing the gis requires the consumer to be more careful with her selection.. Pick these up at your local martial arts training center or just hop onto the world wide web..  I have purchased all my gis at my Columbia BJJ school for convenience sakes; I was able to try a few different ones on to find the one that fit me best.

If you choose to purchase your gi online it is important to select the right size. The quantity of Gis that are hanging in your closet is proportional to how often you will be training.. Because gis need to be washed after being worn during training, it makes sense to purchase at least two gis if you will be training regularly.. So if you’re training everyday and only have one gi, you would have to wash it everyday which can get to be a serious chore. Many women also wear spandex shorts under their gi pants. While sparring the pants may come loose or untied so having the shorts underneath protects you from anyone seeing anything they shouldn’t. The last thing you need for jiu jitsu is optional. A mouthguard will save your pretty smile but it takes time to get used to.. Dicks, Sports Authority, or any sporting goods shop will have these.. Women generally wonder right away what they will need to train and be successful. Women can just take a trip to a local sports store or martial arts school to get everything they need to get started..

Focus On The Martial Arts, Not The Martial Arts Equipment

Posted on 09 October 2010 by Travis Luta

If you are interested in UFC training aka Mixed Martial Arts training, you want to go in fully ready and have the proper equipment.  Like all sports, proper high-quality equipment is a necessity. What’s more important – saving a few bucks now or being able to train safely often in the future?.

For example, at my Columbia Martial Arts center, Muay thai fighters often try to spar without headgear. True professionals worry about getting hurt in the ring or cage – not in training..  My Columbia Muay Thai Kickboxing coach always states that if Floyd Mayweather wears headgear when he is sparring, you better be wearing headgear too!

It is vital to have the right equipment, whether you are training in grappling styles or striking martial arts.. I bought a new Jiu Jitsu uniform (a “gi”) to compete in because I recently went to go compete at an International Jiu Jitsu competition.. My first gi was a Fuji gi which I purchased at my Baltimore UFC training school. When you purchase a gi there is a size chart which you should reference. You need to purchase a gi based on both your size and weight – make sure to check the sizing chart as each gi company’s sizes are slightly different.. All you have to do is find where you fall on the chart, then you can easily tell your gi size. With the proper fabric care, your uniform will last for years!. For example, I shrunk my gi by drying it too long. My Fuji gi is now my practice gi because the sleeves are now too short to compete in. I purchased a new gi – this time a Gameness feather..

At the beginning, a single grappling uniform seems like a good idea but as you begin training more, you realize how much of a headache only having one gi is, so look into purchasing two right from the start.. After each time you wear your gi, it needs to be washed, so the more you train the more you need to wash; you don’t want to be running home right after practice to do laundry every night when you can just invest a few dollars into another uniform.  When I began taking classes I purchased all my equipment so I would be set and ready to start training – you should too, that way you can focus on what you are there for – MARTIAL ARTS – rather than equipment.

Such A Help , Equipments!

Posted on 07 October 2009 by Travis Luta

There are instances wherein you have to lose weight. As you are usually oriented with, you may have the sit ups and push ups, every morning right after your jogging around the oval. And then after that, you will be placed in a room wherein you may have some forms of exercising methods like that of stationery jogging thru the treadmill or anything. But there is one thing which really became a constant companion to me.

You know what that one is? Of course nothing but the use of the ab rocket abs machine and sit up equipment, which you can very well find either in the fitness gym or at the benefit of your own house. You may buy it in the shop nearby or thru orders online. I am very much happy because even if I now lose weight, I just and still continue to use the said equipment because it helps me maintain the best out of the thing that is the result of my prior efforts exerted.

When I used the situp equipment, I felt so relieved and helped. These machines helped me to trim down. I can already see the fruits of my labour and that is dreamt of me even before. It really fed my curiosity and that I love it so much.

It is properly made with the use of proper diet. I am very happy really because my friends can already be proud that they have a friend who is self-disciplined and gay. A tight hug is deserved by me really. So if you have a fitness goal of losing weight, then I hope you are encouraged by my weight loss story. So many individuals like myself, have achieved weight loss even when the odds were against us. But we did it through determine and consistent exercising. That is the plain ole truth to losing weight and staying in shape. So again, take my story to heart and watch your firm, fit body become a reality in no time.
