Taekwondo Vs. Karate

Both Karate and Taekwondo style of martial arts originate from Asia but within different parts.  Taekwondo was created by the culture clash of 3 kingdoms ruling Korea over 2,000 years ago. Similarly, karate dates back to a similar era and is believed to have been formed by Buddhist monks in Japan. Karate involves precise movements, focusing on certain body parts such as hands, feet, knees and elbows to attack the opponent. Each move is calculated and moves through space in strikingly angular and easily-repeated motions.

Though Taekwondo is a strike based martial art, the person is required to use kicks as and when needed. The idea behind this is the fact that the lower part of the body creates far greater force than your upper part of the body while helping you remain stable.

You will be surprised to note that while Taekwondo has been featured in the Summer Olympics since 1988 in Seoul, South Korea, Karate is yet to receive that recognition. Though the committee voted out Taekwondo in the 1996 Olympics held in Atlanta, it was brought back in the year 2000 and has been included in the Summer Olympics ever since. Practitioners of both Taekwondo as well as Karate should outfit themselves in the right kind of clothing. People who practise Karate should wear a good Karate gi while Taekwondo enthusiasts should wear something like the Adidas Taekwondo uniform. Both can be bought at reasonable rates provided you know where to look for them.
