The Grappler’s Manifesto Book Review

Grapplers-manifesto
Grapplers-manifesto

The Guide to Strangling, Torquing, & Bludgeoning Your Way to Victory in The Cage

Even though the sub title sounds like a serial killer article this book is a very details instruction book on the MMA ground game and grappling.  The techniques in the book are some of the best MMA Fighters, however there is nothing mentioning that (see my complaints section below). The photos in this book are big and very crisp, clear, and concise. The images are a great addition to the text that explains each movement or technique in easy to understand detail.

Book Description:

This book  is massive!  With over 350 pages of no-gi grappling techniques.  It is well written for the MMA combat student with instructors like:

  • Greg Jackson & Randy Couture
  • Antonio Rodrigo Nogeuira & Dave Camarillo
  • Jon Fitch & Forest Griffin
  • Neil Melanson & Karo Parisyan

Which is a ton of talent for one book!

The Grappler’s Manifesto explains the various phases:

  • Guard
  • Turtle
  • Cross-body
  • Front and back mounts

However, there aren’t any take-downs like guard techniques, including sweeps, submissions, and passes.

Things I liked About The Grappler’s Manifesto

  • It gives you a game plan and breaks down different categories of Grapplers and how to attach and defend them.
  • There is no small talk, it get’s started right away with details and ends with details.
  • Most books are lopsided either in offense or defense but this book splits it right down the middle.

Things I didn’t Like About The Grappler’s Manifesto

  • The books layout and grappling techniques seem a bit random and not organize or thought out.
  • There is nothing that explains who the guys demonstrating the techniques in the photos.

Overall:

I would recommend this book for anyone who is a beginner in Mixed Martial Arts and just starting out. However, if you are an advanced to intermediate level MMA student then you can move on since you know the moves and techniques already.
