Beginning bodybuilders will find that the chest area is one of the easiest muscle groups to strengthen and develop. It consists of a large muscle (pectoralis major) to either side of the breastbone and a smaller muscle (pectoralis minor) underneath. 2. Incline dumbbell flyes – 3 sets of 10-15 reps. When performed properly, this exercise can benefit both inner and outer pecs.

3. Push-ups – 3 sets of 10-15 reps. Maintain a straight body from head to knees and lower your body until your arms make right angles. The old fashioned push-up still provides benefits to the chest muscles when done properly.

As with all exercises you need to take care in scheduling specific body parts. To start with you should integrate the chest exercises into a routine such as the one shown below

Day 1: Back, Abs, Biceps

Day 2: Abs, Hamstrings, Shoulders

Day 3: Calves, Quads, Forearms

Day 4: Triceps, Chest, Abs

Do one set for a couple of weeks and then add a set each week up to a maximum of three. At the end of three months you will be ready to move on to more intensive intermediate level exercises.
